The plate, like many from the Edo period in the Seto region, was crafted by an anonymous craftsman in the Seto region, showcasing the impressive technological scale of production during this period. Like the E-Seto plates featured in museums such as the Minneapolis Institute of Art and the Victoria and Albert Museum, this work is made from stoneware with an underglaze of iron oxide, and features the classic "Umanomi" or Horse Eye motif that embellishes the border of this plate.
