Anti-Vessel (Basket form), created in 2004, represents an important moment in Yanagihara Mutsuo’s exploration of organic forms and his inquiry into functionality in clay. Living organisms exist in flux, and resists challenges the static expectations of traditional vessel forms through an inherent fluid state.
Likewise, this vessel conjures optical illusions from every angle—its contours shifting with changes in light, perspective, and position. It appears to transform before the viewer’s eyes, as though coming alive.
