Isezaki Mitsuru was part of the famous Isezaki family practicing in the tradition of Bizen-yaki. Though not well known in the west, Mitsuru's works are very popular in Japan. Not only was he the elder brother to Isezaki Jun (Living National Treasure), he himself was an extremely competent potter. This large platter shows the extraordinary skills of this potter in throwing and in creating impressive Hidasuki effects. In this platter, salt-soaked straw was placed and wrapped around the unglazed platter that left the dark ochre lines on the Bizen surface.
Mitsuru holds the Kaneshige-Tōyō prize, awarded in 1973, and was awarded the Okayama Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property.
