Characterized by vibrant glazes and incredibly textured clay, Higashida Shigemasa'spowerful Oribe ceramics feature lush pools and flows of glaze across craggy landscapes. These stunning landscapes become dramatic plates and monumental boxes. This platter
has a deep green, recalling the color of summer.
Higashida's elegant Oribe and Shino ceramics have received rave reviews from collectorsand connoisseurs alike, and have been exhibited widely throughout Japan and abroad, including at Gallery Miyasaka and Takashimaya, Sogo, and Wako department stores. DaiIchi Arts has been proud to show his work many times, and continues to find delight in hisstunning creations. Higashida slowly reveals his "accidental beauty"to us. In his own
words:
"桃栗三年柿八年、技は10年、芸は一生、やきものは一生半 "It takes 3 or 8 years to growpeaches and persimmons, 10 years to acquire a skill, and a lifetime to perfect and learn
yakimono pottery."
