Occupying the 2nd position among the 12 zodiac signs, the Year of the Ox represents diligence and strength. The Sodeisha ceramic artist Suzuki Osamu (1926-2001) was celebrated for his technically skilled ceramic works during mid-century Japan that presented the ceramic medium as objet d'art (an autonomous work of art), elevating the medium to high art. He also created small scale zodiac figurine sculptures for every corresponding zodiac animal year. This minimalistic and abstract Ox has a classic white glaze over porcelain.
