Occupying the 3rd position among the 12 zodiac signs, the Year of the Tiger represents power and courage. The Sodeisha ceramic artist Suzuki Osamu (1926-2001) was celebrated for his technically skilled ceramic works during mid-century Japan that presented the ceramic medium as objet d'art (an autonomous work of art), elevating the medium to high art. He also created small scale zodiac figurine sculptures for every corresponding zodiac animal year. This abstract Tiger has a tilted head, and has a classic white glaze over porcelain.
