This sake cup is enlivened by iron brushwork beneath a softly variegated Karatsu glaze. Its earthy palette and spontaneous decoration reflect Nakagawa Jinenbo (1953–2011)’s personal approach to the Karatsu tradition, balancing robust materiality with quiet refinement. Nakagawa established his own climbing kiln in Saga Prefecture in 1982 and later became celebrated for his distinctive brush-decorated wares and revival of historic Oku-Korai tea ceramics. He was one of the most respected potters of the Karatsu tradition in his lifetime.
