Born in 1937 in Karatsu, Japan, Nakazato Takashi is the fifth son of the famed Living National Treasure potter, Taroemon Nakazato. Takashi’s Jars are strong, wholesome and powerful, showing his flair for Karatsu-Nanban, Tenmoku, and Persimmon glazes on his wheel thrown jars. He founded the kiln, Ryuta-gama in order to practice these techniques. Indeed, he has skillfully produced this jar glazed with a wood ash. He painted the jar in a most extraordinary fashion. The muted Karatsu surface is meditative and understated.
