Born in 1937 in Karatsu, Japan, Nakazato Takashi is the fifth son of the famed Living National Treasure potter, Nakazato Toraemon 12th (Muan). He hails from a famous line of Karatsu potters. Takashi’s Jars are strong, wholesome and powerful, showing his flair for Karatsu-Nanban, Tenmoku, and Persimmon glazes on his wheel thrown jars. He founded the kiln, Ryuta-gama in order to practice these techniques. Indeed, he has skillfully produced this jar glazed with a wood ash. He painted the jar in a most extraordinary fashion. The muted Karatsu surface is meditative and understated. Subtle colors are meandering in a hues of blue, green and purple.
