About this series, Ōishi expresses:
The soft, blurred landscape of the tea bowl reflects the Japanese aesthetic of yūgen (幽玄), a quiet and mysterious beauty. It also alludes to the philosophy of Mo zi, an ancient Chinese philosopher, whose teaching of impartial care adds another layer of meaning to the work."
The contemporary Kyoto-based ceramicist Ōishi Sayaka creates richly detailed, maximalist ceramics that weave together fragments of the human body, plants, and animals, forming immersive, otherworldly landscapes. Her works unveil a humanist vision expressing a universal coexistence with nature through vessels and objet d’art.
Identifying both as a ceramic sculptor and artist, her work explores the boundaries between objects for display and function, creating a fascinating tension within the tea bowl category.
