Katsu Kikuchi is a contemporary ceramic artist based on the Kunisaki Peninsula in Oita, Japan. After studying with the celebrated Karatsu potter Jinenbo Nakagawa, Kikuchi developed a deep appreciation for Kōraimono—Korean style ceramics. These historical traditions that were imported to Japan in the 16th century, gave rise to styles including Mishima, Buncheong, iron-glazed wares, and the distinctive glazes associated with Karatsu and Chōsen Karatsu.

Kikuchi works within this rich lineage while maintaining a distinctly contemporary sensibility. Traditional forms, time-worn surfaces, and restrained glazes lend his ceramics an archaeological presence, evoking objects shaped by heritage, use, and the passage of time. His works bring subtle depth and character to the tea space and the room.
