A celebrated Mino artist, Tamaoki Yasuo is known for his Shino and Kiseto works. Born in Tajimi in 1941, he grew up exposed to a plethora of traditional techniques. He usually works in Nezumi-Shino and Aka-Shino (gray and red Shino, respectively). After having studied in the Gifu Ceramics Research Institute, he apprenticed under Kato Kobei, a treasured artist who specialized in lustreware techniques. He has won numerous awards and is hailed as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Tajimi City and Gifu Prefecture.
