The Mino-based potter Tamaoki Yasuo (b. 1941) is known for his mastery over the many types of Shino glaze. He is the of numerous awards and hailed as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Tajimi City and Gifu Prefecture. The Shino glaze is heavy, dark, and sublime. The creamy grey glaze drip is complemented by its gradated bleed into a navy blue. The rust-coloured rim rim is caused by the iron underglaze.
