A sculptor by trade, in his spare time Nagae creates captivating, limited, handmade tablewares that are the product of a skilled hand and a loving eye.
These were very well received in New York due both to their arresting beauty and their versatility in function: they can be used at the table for appetizers, sushi, or even soy sauce; they are lovely when displayed on a table or hung on a wall; and their illusionistic depths can even be used as meditation aides.
Nagae has been featured in many solo and group exhibitions in Japan and overseas including Toji/Avant garde et tradition du Japan at Musée Nationale de Cèramique, Sèvres and Contemporary Clay: Japanese Ceramics for the New Century at Japan Society New York in 2005. He has received many awards such as Grand Prize at Triennale de la Porcelaine Contemporarie in Nyon Switzerland and the Parmita Museum in Mie.
