Biography

1948 Born in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.

1970 Graduated from Kanazawa College of Art.

1972 Studied under Fujio Kitade and Yoshiyuki Chōsa.

1974 First submission to the Nitten Exhibition; selected.

1981 Received the New Crafts Award at the Japan New Crafts Exhibition.

1896 Received the Hakone Open-Air Museum Award at The Japan New Crafts Exhibition: Opening the Future.

1989 Awarded the Grand Prize at The Japan New Crafts Exhibition: Opening the Future.

1991 Received the Members’ Award at the Japan New Crafts Exhibition.

1992 Received the Members’ Award at the Japan New Crafts Exhibition.

1993 Received the Members’ Award at the Japan New Crafts Exhibition.

2001 Became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association; work acquired by The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

2002 Received the Asahi Shimbun Prize at the Japan Traditional Kōgei Exhibition.

2004 Received an Encouragement Prize at the Japan Traditional Kōgei Exhibition.

2007 Awarded the Japan Ceramic Society Prize.

Appointed as a juror for the Japan Traditional Kōgei Exhibition; has since served in this role on multiple occasions.

2009 Appointed as an invited artist to the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition; has continued to serve in this capacity.

2014  Received the Ishikawa Prefecture Cultural Merit Award.

Director, Ishikawa Kutaniyaki Art Museum.

Vice Chairman, Kutaniyaki Technical Preservation Society

(designated holder group of Important Intangible Cultural Properties, Ishikawa Prefecture).

Chairman, Japan Ceramic Society Kutani Support Association.
