The potter Mori Tozan (b. 1938) is renowned for his traditional Bizen ware, particularly the abstract, firing marks that are adorn the surfaces of his tea vessels (tea bowls, water jars, and tea caddies). Also known by his given name, Mori Susumu, he graduated from Bizen High School and, in 1957, began training under his father, Mori Chikuzan. His brothers, Mori Seishi and Mori Shinsen are also Bizen potters that continue the family lineage.

He became independent and built his first kiln in 1965 and, in 1983, constructed a semi-underground kiln at the foot of Mount Daimyojin. In 1985, he was appointed Chairman of the Bizen-Toshin-kai.

Over the years, he has received numerous accolades from prestigious exhibitions, including the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition, the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, and the Chunichi International Ceramic Art Exhibition. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at esteemed venues such as the Roppongi Ceramic Salon, Ginza Matsuya Department Store, and Shinjuku Isetan Department Store.
