Born in Korea in 1919, Ahn Dong Oh began making pottery in 1953 when studied at the Kasungsasamaeng Pottery Studio (가승사사맹도자연구소). In 1967, Ahn Dong Oh established the Folk Pottery Studio (민속도요) in Kwangju, Kyunggido. This studio became a sanctuary for potters and students of folk craft. Ahn Dong Oh's impact on the world of ceramics was officially recognized in 1976 when he was designated as an Intangible Cultural Asset for pottery. This prestigious honor affirmed his status as a living treasure of South Korea, a custodian of the country's rich pottery heritage.
