Special wares treasured by the Tokugawa Shoguns. Ryuei 柳営means shogun(general), shogun's camp, shogun's family, and shogunate. These are the famous utensils in the possession of the Tokugawa Shoguns. Gomotsu 御物 is one of the symbols of royal authority. The collection is based on Higashiyama Gomotsu (Higashiyama Gomotsu refers to paintings, tea ceremony utensils, flower vases, stationery, etc. collected by Ashikaga Yoshimasa 足利義政, the 8th shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate), items that have been handed down to the Shogunate and the Morodomi family since the Muromachi period, and items left behind by Tokugawa Ieyasu. The Ryuei Gomotsu includes items collected by Tokugawa Ieyasu himself, as well as items presented to the shogunate.
