Ueda Naokata V (1928 – 2016) was the 5th generation of a famous Shigaraki pottery family. He studied under his father, the 4th generation Ueda Naokata who specialized in tea bowls. 
This tea bowl has a sensitive ash glaze, with a color gradation from the darker lip to the lighter part in the belly of the bowl. The rounded form is appealing and wholesome. It shows off a modern sensibility.
