Born into a famous Bizen potter family, Isezaki Koichiro 伊勢﨑晃一朗 (b. 1974) is a descendant of the Bizen master Isezaki Jun in more ways than one. He has carried the heritage of Bizen through to modern and innovative heights. The absence of glaze emphasizes the Aji-Tsuchi (土味) character of the cup. In this intricate cup, he has mimicked the surface of an otherworldly meteorite, or the moon. The gradating white foot to a pitch black obsidian-colored surface recreates the juxtaposition between the light and dark side of the moon. A little meteorite in your hand- it truly epitomizes the modern possibilities of Bizen clay.
