Morino Taimei (b. 1934, also known as Morino Hiroaki Taimei)’s work is firmly rooted in the traditions of his native Kyoto, yet his exposure to international art trends during the 4 years he spent teaching at the University of Chicago in the 1960s.
His awareness of more avant-garde Japanese and international practices has informed his painterly compositions on the surfaces of his hand-built, elegant vessels. One might compare the painterly surface treatment of this jar to that of American modern artist, Jackson Pollock.
