A leading modern celadon ceramic artist, who gained great popularity for his unique style that blends the superlative techniques of celadon glaze with modern sculptural forms. He is known for his exceptional craftsmanship in recreating the celadon of the Chinese Song Dynasty's imperial kilns and creating innovative celadon art. This piece is by Living National Treasure Nakashima Hiroshi (1941-2018).
It is a very large 'Jade Celadon Jar,' with a diameter of 12 15/16 inch and a height of 15 1/2 inch. The glaze has a mysterious color reminiscent of the celadon of the Song Dynasty's imperial kilns in China, featuring an inexpressibly exquisite bluish-green hue. The surface is covered with countless crackles, giving it an overwhelmingly mystical and elegant appearance. The piece is adorned with uniformly balanced line carvings, further enhancing its mysterious aura, comparable to that of Southern Song celadon.
