Famous for his large-scale celadon installations, such as that found at the Nagoya airport entrance, as well as his thick-walled sculptural pieces, here we see Yoshikawa Masamichi 吉川 正道 (b. 1946)’s versatility and formal interest in functional, domestic objects. The swift, wheel-thrown cup has a flared lip, and a high foot. It is a beautiful and sensitive display of the seihakuji celadon technique. It is signed 道 (“michi”) at the base.
