Kohara’s Yasuhiro (b. 1954) works are born of nature. Kohara was born and raised in where he currently works and resides. His works showcase an unusual combination of modern sensibilities married with Shigaraki tradition. He uses ash glaze to great effect and achieves an abstraction with it that gives his work a real sense of individuality within the Shigaraki tradition. Indeed, his use of kiln effects in combination with the ash glaze creates surfaces of great complexity that will suggest the story of Shigaraki long into the future.
