04/20/18 | Japan: My Soul Food

I had dinner @ Izumi restaurant, an elegant, quiet setting. I am happy to have Japanese meal by myself where I can totally enjoy my dishes without any distractions. I am owning the whole experience where time stands still, I am only having dialogues with various foods, and various dishes.

A tiny spring sprout in the mouth, bitter sweet, it wakes up the spring in me. I understand the Chef has been collecting ceramic utensils for many years. Here he carefully presents the early spring  in a bowl decorated with spring sprouts and young leaves. Yes, spring is here!

Clear soup is in a red lacquer bowl decorated with  mother of pearl cherries flower inlaid. Spring is new, spring is tender, spring is pink, spring  is young green.

Hassun  dish ( 八寸): it is named after the size of the dish. It has both foods from the sea and the land, therefore, my dish has sea food as well as beef!    The ash on the plate is over flowing, just like the narrow passageway in a mountain after a spring rain.

How can a spring dish without Takanoko! ( bamboo shoots)

There comes sticky sweet rice dessert wrapped in salt marinated cherry leaves.. spring is everywhere.

I am having spring in every bite, every corner, as if I am taking spring’s hand, look around, slowly walk into summer with ease...thank you, Izumi Sama.
