This piece is an exemplary execution of the Tanba style by Nishihada. The tea bowl is wheel thrown with carved foot. The wood firing gives it a subtle highlight. The ash deposits on the clay surface is also subtle, moving imperceptibly in a gradation between the red, grey, vermillion, and ochre colors of the fiery glaze. The back side of the tea bowl, on the other hand, has shied away from the heat, it reveals beautiful Tamba clay saturated with red iron contents.
